For a long time, I have been thinking about a blog post that connects Teaching and Stand-Up Comedy (and why not capitalize them?).
As a teacher educator, I spend a good amount of time talking with my teacher candidates about what you are doing as a teacher is creating an environment. Sometimes you are creating an environment with stuff (a scientific experiment, for example). But mostly, you are doing it with language.
This video is a discussion between four comedians (Jerry Seinfeld, Louis CK, Chris Rock, and Ricky Gervais) about how they work to make a joke, well, work. This opened a door me about language creating an environment.
But then I just saw this great analysis and I knew my intuition was right. I need to work more on making this connection with my students.
Feel free to share what you think.
